ST. PETERSBURG, FL — What emerged as a way to fill some downtime in the 2016 campaign may not be repeated anymore.
For the last two seasons following victories, the Red Sox outfielders have joined together, bowed and danced to anything from "The Stanky Leg" to "The Michael Jackson" to "The Carlton."
The celebrations were quickly coined "Win, Dance, Repeat."
Fans began to grow a liking to it and the Red Sox even started to tweet out #WinDanceRepeat following victory. However, during an on-field interview with ESPN in the Red Sox final Spring Training tuneup Tuesday, right fielder Mookie Betts casted a cloud over the future of the celebrations.
"Debating it. We don't know yet," Mookie Betts said of if the celebrations will continue. "We don't know if we're gonna do it. Then if we do it, we have to just figure out what we're going to do. So that's the debate or talk that's going on."
Left fielder Andrew Benintendi later chimed in. "It's up in the air," Benintendi said. "I don't know. I don't know. I'm low on the totem pole. So, not my call. We'll see. Jackie would know better than me."
Center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. also added he has no idea if the routine, which they've only executed once in the playoffs, will carry into this season. "We're gonna all find out at the same time," Bradley said. "Time will tell."
A decision is expected by Opening Day on Thursday.
