TAMPA, Fla. — For the seventh time in an illustrious career that has spanned two decades, Tom Brady led his team to a Super Bowl championship on Sunday. This time, however, he did so as the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who knocked off the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9, in Super Bowl LV.

Brady was named MVP of the Super Bowl for the fifth time in his career after completing 21-of-29 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. His fellow former Patriots had similarly impressive days as TE Rob Gronkowski won his third Super Bowl while WR Antonio Brown won the first title in his career.

True to form, Brady was stellar in Super Bowl LV, throwing a trio of touchdown passes in the first half, two of which went to Gronkowski. The former Patriots tight end was on the receiving end of an 8-yard score in the first quarter and a 17-yard touchdown pass in the second.

And then, with six seconds remaining in the first half, Brady found another former Patriot to put the Buccaneers up 21-6. Brown hauled in a 1-yard touchdown pass in the waning seconds of the first half to push the Tampa Bay lead to 15 before the break.
Defensively, Tampa was able to smother the high-flying offense of the Kansas City Chiefs. Twice in the first half, the Buccaneers limited the Chiefs to field goals on long drives. When Kansas City opened the second half with a seven-play, 47-yard drive, the Tampa defense rose to the occasion again, holding the Chiefs to yet another field goal.
The Buccaneers put the game away early in the second half with RB Leonard Fournette tearing off a 27-yard touchdown run before K Ryan Succop knocked down a 52-yard field goal following an interception of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (26-of-49, 270 yards, 2 INTs).
And with the Chiefs facing a must-have 4th-and-9 at the beginning of the fourth quarter at the Tampa 11-yard line, the Buccaneers defense again was up for the challenge, forcing a Mahomes incompletion for the turnover.
They sealed the game with 1:33 remaining in the contest, intercepting Mahomes in the end zone.
