ROCHESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A construction worker was impaled after falling 15 feet Saturday in Rochester.
Just after 8:30 a.m., a man was attempting to cut a section of a metal reinforcing bar at the Zero Waste Facility and fell 15 feet. The 62-year-old was then impaled through his chest cavity by the rebar and trapped.
It took first responders almost an hour to extricate him.
"Lucky for that gentleman he was conscious and alert and awake and able to talk to us. We evaluated his injuries and took care of what we could at the time and then went to the process of figuring out how we were going to extricate him from being impaled on that rebar," a Rochester paramedic said.
He was flown from the facility on the Cranberry Highway to the Rhode Island Trauma Center with serious injuries. His condition is unknown.
