Woman, mother robbed while walking home from Jackson Square MBTA station

BOSTON — A Jamaica Plain woman and her mother decided to take a new route home after shopping this weekend but it ended up leading them to a harrowing confrontation.

“I don’t normally get off at this T station but decided to get off because it’s a flatter route,” the woman, who asked not to be identified, said.

The woman and her 60-year-old mother got off the Orange Line at Jackson Square, but after walking just two blocks toward home they were jumped.

“Before I knew it he had thrown my mother into the street,” the woman said. “He didn’t say a word, he didn’t threaten us, said nothing about a weapon. The whole thing was silent.”

Both women suffered cuts and bruises on their elbows.

According to a police report obtained by Boston 25 News, the suspect is a black man around 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants at the time.

“He tried to grab my mother’s new computer which was in an Apple bag, which in retrospect wasn’t the smartest. Maybe I should have had it in a different kind of bag,” the victim said.

She struggled at first but decided to give in, the suspect also took her mother’s purse.

“By then my mom had popped up and started yelling help at the top of her lungs,”

In a Facebook post, the victim warns “PLEASE be careful if you have to walk anywhere from Jackson Square at night. Last night my mom and I were assaulted and robbed.”

Police are investigating and have advised her not to take the T late at night.

“It really is better safe than sorry,” she said.
