Wilmington neighborhood unsettled by rash of break-ins

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Brazen, middle-of-the-day house break-ins are happening in Wilmington and police are searching for whoever is responsible.

Boston 25 News actually alerted police to a third apparent break-in of a home that’s under construction Wednesday.

Nothing was taken, according to a worker we spoke with but officers are looking into it.

The rash of home break-ins is happening on Strout Avenue and Lowell Street. Lowell Street is a busy stretch also known as Route 129. It leads to Interstate 93.

Meanwhile, Strout Avenue is a small, dead-end street. One where neighbors say they’re always on alert for fear of having their homes broken into -- which is now happening.

“Obviously we’re asking for the public’s help,” Wilmington Police Chief Joe Desmond said. "If they can think about anything that they might have saw in the neighborhood that could help us out, we appreciate it because we do think this is probably someone who is local.”

In the past four days, police say there have been two reported break-ins, valuables were taken. Victims are still getting a handle on just how much.

It’s been an unsettling week for those living here.

“It’s very unusual and this is a very quiet neighborhood,” Louis D’Augustsa told Boston 25 News. “We are being vigilant and everybody is keeping an eye on everybody’s home.”

We did come across the homes that were broken into but are not showing them.
