Wilmington High School teacher back in classroom after domestic assault arrest

WILMINGTON, Mass. — A Wilmington High School teacher was back in the classroom Monday after he was arrested for domestic assault just a week ago.

Anthony Altieri was arrested Sept. 11 in a domestic incident and a note was sent to parents saying he would be returning to school.

The police report says, "Anthony then grabbed her by the back of the head and her hair and smashed her face into the door frame."

In the report, Altieri admits to striking the victim, but said he only hit her after she slapped him first.

He was reportedly on paid administrative leave last week, but parents were alerted Sunday he would be returning to his classroom on Monday.

Many people took to Twitter to express their outrage with his return.

However, some parents told FOX25 they don't have a problem with him being back on the job.

"I don't think he did anything to effect the kids as far as I understand, so again, I have to default to the school system and say I put my trust in them.  I think they're going to be doing what is best for the kids," said Joe Long.

FOX25 reached out to the Wilmington School superintendent, but were told no comment.

Altieri's attorney told FOX25, "the facts don't support the allegations."

Altieri is back in court on Oct. 18.
