WEBSTER, Mass. — A woman about to have her first child got devastating news Monday while at work - her home had been destroyed by a fire.
Crews from several towns rushed to battle the fire in Webster on Abbey Road Monday afternoon.
Video from Sky25 shows a giant hole on the left side of the roof after most of the flames were put out and you can see most of the back of the home was also burned out.
Rachana Sameth said the fire is devastating, especially because the nursery for her unborn child had just been completed.
“It’s heartbreaking because we don’t want to see that so close to my baby coming we just want to have a nice home for him and welcome him to this new world,” she said.
Rachana and her husband Jimmy are expecting their first child, a boy, in about six weeks. The crib, toys, clothes and everything else in the nursery was destroyed.
“Now look at that that’s the room. I put a lot of hard work to set up that room for our first son now it’s gone,” Jimmy said.
The couple wasn't home when the fire started, and while the home is a complete loss they're thankful firefighters were able to save their two pet Chihuahuas.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have started in the backyard.
