AMHERST, Mass. — The suspect in the armed assault that led to a campus lockdown at UMass Amherst was arrested Friday afternoon.
Police arrested William McKeown, 19, who is not a UMass Amherst student. He's facing charges of armed robbery, assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Students and staff were ordered to shelter in place Thursday evening after a report of two possible gunmen on campus. Police said a caller reported two suspects, one of whom had a handgun.

One student was injured during the incident; police said he suffered a cut on his head. The student was taken to the hospital and has since been released, police said in a news conference Friday afternoon.
Police said as a result of the investigation, they searched two locations in Framingham. Officers found a vehicle they believed was connected to the suspects and impounded it.
On Friday, McKeown surrendered himself at Framingham Police headquarters.
Surveillance video from the school shows the two suspects being provided access to Pierpont Hall, a freshman residence hall on campus which is under a 24-hour swipe card system.

Police said they are still investigating the identity of the other suspect.
