Walmart takes 'Black Friday' to the next level, offers 5 full days of sales

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- This year at Walmart, it's Friday every day for a full five days following retail's biggest day in sales.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Walmart will start offering online-only specials and free shipping starting Thanksgiving Day. Then, door-buster deals will start at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving through the weekend and into "Cyber Monday."

Walmart's move may work to spur sales, while also avoiding the dangerous crush of people who wait outside stores anxious to get in for deals. Walmart says customers shop when they want to, and the store hopes to cater to them.

When it comes to Black Friday deals, it's legal to open on Thanksgiving Day in most of the country. There are only three states that don't allow shopping on the holiday, and they're all in New England: Massachusetts, Maine and Rhode island.
