Veterans ride their motorcycles in memory of Boston firefighter

BOSTON — Hundreds of bikers rode around the South Shore Saturday to honor fallen Boston firefighter Michael Ryan Kennedy and raise money for The Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation.

Kennedy, who was killed in the line of duty three years ago alongside Lt. Ed Walsh after battling a fire on Beacon Street in Back Bay, had an unconditional love for motorcycles.

Michael's father, Paul Kennedy, remembers him as "a Marine, a firefighter, just an all around good person."

His friends and family thought it would be a great way to honor the fallen hero by combining his love for motorcycles with his greater love for his service.

It only made sense for them to give back to the organization he volunteered with, which helps burn victims.

"It's a really worthy cause, Michael loved the kids, he played with them when he could in his off-time. This event is to memorialize Mike and his work that continues," said Paul Kennedy.

"Probably one of the best guys I ever knew. The things he did for the community, giving back," said Scott Rothwell, the National President of the American Infidels Veterans Motorcycle Club.

The bikers started their ride in Dorchester and revved their engines through several South Shore towns with Michael on their minds.

"For us to keep his legacy alive and to continue to honor him is unbelievable," Jaime Kennedy-Agostino, Michael's cousin said.

Michael's family started an organization called the Last Call Foundation, which aims at improving and bringing awareness to firefighter safety.
