A Vermont Department of Public Safety employee was killed by a former boyfriend, according to the state's Department of Public Safety.
The victim, 29-year-old Courtney Gaboriault, was killed in Barre on Wednesday in "another senseless act perpetrated by a man who sought to control and dominate another person," according to Public Safety Commissioner Thomas D. Anderson.
Gaboriault had worked for the Department of Public Safety for nearly five years, and acted as an administrative services coordinator for the Vermont Marijuana Registry for the last 18 months.
“She was always happy to help a co-worker with any issue," Jeffrey Wallin, director of the Vermont Crime Information Center, said. "She brought a sense of joy to her work and her co-workers every day."

She was born and raised in Vermont, graduating from Lake Region Union High School in 2007, and from Lyndon State College in 2011.
“Domestic violence touches us all, and yesterday it touched the men and women of the Department of Public Safety in a particularly direct and heart-wrenching manner,” Anderson said.
