According to WLKY and WXIN, the incident occurred about 11:15 p.m. Monday, 15 minutes after the Veterans Parkway store had closed. Employees told Clarksville police officers, who were already responding to an unrelated incident outside the store, that a man with severe neck lacerations was still inside and refused to leave, Indiana State Police said in a news release.

After the officers went inside the store, the man, identified as 30-year-old Daniel Francis Scott, appeared to brandish “a machete-style knife when approached and charged toward an officer,” the release said. “That officer fired his department handgun, striking Daniel Scott.”

Crews rushed Scott, of Corydon, to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, according to the release.

Indiana State Police believe that Scott took the machete and a razor from the store, and his neck injuries were self-inflicted, the release said.

No other people were hurt in the incident, authorities said.
