MODESTO, Calif. — A man has been arrested after he allegedly attacked an elderly man with a baseball bat in California, officials say.
According to a news release from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday just before 4 p.m., deputies were called out to a trailer park in Modesto, California, after reports of an attack with a deadly weapon. When they arrived, they located and then detained Marcos Canal, 28,
Deputies found a 71-year-old man unresponsive, according to KXTV. The man appeared to have been beaten in the neck and the head with a baseball bat.
SCSO said the man was taken to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Witnesses came forward to investigators and identified Canal as the person allegedly responsible for the attack.
According to KXTV, Canal has been booked on the recommended charge of attempted murder with out bail.
The victim remains on life support and SCSO said that charges could be changed depending on his condition.
No motive has been released, but investigators believe this attack was not random, and Canal and the victim had a prior history, said SCSO.
