Responding officers found three teenagers with gunshot wounds near the Waterfront Park bridge just after 9 p.m. EDT, all of whom were transported to an area hospital, LMPD Maj. Brian Kuriger told WDRB.

One victim is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley confirmed to the TV station.

Big Four Bridge is a pedestrian crossing that extends over the Ohio River into southern Indiana, The Courier-Journal in Louisville reported.

Two other individuals who had been shot arrived at an area hospital via private means a short while later, police confirmed to the newspaper.

LMPD initially reported that one teenager had died but later retracted that report, WDRB reported.

“Due to the chaotic events at the scene, earlier reports indicated that one individual had died. LMPD sincerely apologizes for confusion this may have caused,” Smiley told the TV station.

No arrests had been made and no suspects were identified by early Sunday evening, The Courier-Journal reported.

“The last thing you want to do is show up on a run and you’ve got somebody who’s been shot, at any age. But it’s even tougher when you have juveniles or adolescents or anybody that’s in their teenage years, to have their whole life ahead of them, that are going through this traumatic event where they’re a victim,” Kuriger told the newspaper.
