According to the Evansville Courier & Press, the man was identified as 25-year-old Ronald Ray Mosley II. Mosley was a former Walmart employee.

Police said Mosley exchanged gunfire with police before he was shot and killed. The incident was reported a little after 10 p.m. local time.

At least one victim, a woman, was hospitalized, Evansville police Sgt. Anne Gray told WFIE-TV. The woman was an employee of that Walmart.

The victim’s name was not released, nor was anything known about her condition early Friday, but according to Evansville police officer Taylor Merriss the victim “was able to talk when she was taken away from the scene.”

“At this time, we don’t know how many other people he shot at, as far as any other people inside the store,” Gray said late Thursday. “We’re still trying to gather that information.”

After the shooting, Walmart issued a statement saying, “The entire Walmart family is shocked by the senseless violence that occurred at our Evansville store, and our hearts are with our associate at this time. As we learn more, we’ll do everything we can to support our associates as they cope with this tragedy.”
