According to the Modesto Bee and KTXL, Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies arrested Tasawri Jaali Ellis, 22, and Isabella Ramirez, 21, both of Empire, on child abuse and neglect charges Tuesday. Ellis also faces an aggravated mayhem charge in connection with the 5-month-old girl’s injuries, the outlets reported.

Investigators said that on Tuesday morning, the couple brought the baby to an area hospital, where doctors discovered fractures “in various stages of healing,” the Bee reported. The newest injuries appeared to have occurred several days earlier, officials said.

Investigators believe Ellis squeezed and twisted the infant’s limbs, according to the Bee.

Police arrested Ramirez, who later posted bail, and Ellis, who remains jailed on $550,000 bail, the news outlets reported.
