A storm system that has plagued the eastern half of the nation will be giving Louisville, Kentucky, the blues with steady rain, heavy at times for Saturday. That will leave many of the dirt tracks on the muddy side.

Many of the dapperly-dressed onlookers will have to weave some sort of rain gear into their fashion repertoire.

This is the third consecutive year the Derby track will be sloppy. Rainfall is expected to be less than last year, when 3.15 inches of rain fell on the track, according to AccuWeather.

"Even if the rain quits a short time before the start of the race, despite the fact that the track drains well, conditions are likely to be sloppy for this year's Derby," AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Thompson said.

Temperatures will be in the 60s around race time.
