Company, community donate new home to family of slain teen

LUMBERTON, N.C. — A Florida-based company has donated a new home to the family of a North Carolina teen who was kidnapped and killed.

Media outlets report the family of 13-year-old Hania Aguilar was surprised Tuesday with a new mobile home from Time Out Communities. The home was donated by the company and members of the community, including the local school district.

Hania, an eighth grade student at Lumberton Junior High School, was kidnapped Nov. 5 outside her home by a man who forced his way into her aunt's vehicle while she was starting it to go to school that morning, reported the Fayetteville Observer. Hania's body was found Nov. 27 in a pond about 11 miles south of her home. Her killer is still at large.

Hania's family will move from their single-wide mobile home to their new, double-wide mobile home with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The family will enjoy its first six months rent-free.

"I wanted to try to give something to them to take away some of the pain. It's not going to get her child back," Time Out Communities operations manager Mitchell Hunt told WTVD-TV. "All I could think about was how her mom had to make that journey in and out of the mobile home park that the baby made coming out."

Local businesses and community members have also donated money and furniture to the family. Hania's family was "in tears" upon receiving the donations, Hunt said.

Hania's funeral is scheduled for Saturday. The FBI continues to investigate her abduction and death.
