Tree falls and injures employee at Ipswich Department of Public Works

IPSWICH, Mass. — An Ipswich Department of Public Works employee was seriously injured Sunday morning after he was struck by a falling tree during overhaul operations.

The DPW employee is a 46-year-old Gloucester man who was flewn to Massachusetts General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ipswich firefighters, members of the Massachusetts Bureau of Forest Fire Control and Ipswich DPW crews were at the scene.

The overhaul operations included finding and wetting down hot spots from recent forest fires. Fourteen area fire departments were called in to extinguish the flames.

Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services is currently investigating how the incident occurred.
