Teen falls 30-feet while climbing power lines at Plymouth substation

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A teen is recovering after falling from power lines at a Plymouth substation.

Plymouth's fire chief released video that shows the teen hanging from the support beam of the power line. He said the video was taken by a friend of the victim.

Plymouth Police and Fire were called to the Eversource power substation off Beaver Dam Road at 6 a.m. for a teen who was scaling the high tension poles.

Fire officials say the teen was climbing the lines "for thrills" when he slipped. The teen was hanging from a support beam when his foot made contact with a 115,000 volt power line. He fell 30 feet.

The teen was alert and conscious when emergency officials arrived. The police chief said he has burns on 40 percent of his body.

Eversource released the following statement:

"As we investigate what happened this morning, our thoughts are with the young man, his family and friends, and we all hope he’ll be okay. We can’t emphasize strongly enough that high voltage power lines and electrical substations can be hazardous, which is why we implore everyone to stay away from them."
