CHILMARK, Mass. — A 17-year-old high school senior from Oak Bluffs died in a crash in Chilmark Friday morning.
State Police said they responded to a call just before 8 a.m. Jake Baird was driving on Middle Rd. when he swerved and eventually drove off the road, hitting a tree and sliding into an embankment.
Baird was found dead at the scene.
Two passengers were also in the vehicle - they were brought to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Baird was a senior at Martha's Vineyard Regional High School.
The school posted about the death on its website. It says officials have set up a Crisis Intervention Team to assist students as they process the loss.
The crash remains under investigation.
