System outage causes slot machines at Encore Boston casino to briefly fail

BOSTON — Timing was not on Encore Boston’s side on Friday night.

On one of the casino’s busiest nights of the week, a system outage caused slot machines across the casino to fail suddenly, leaving many players frustrated and out of money.

In a statement to Boston 25 News, an Encore spokesperson said they “experienced a brief system outage with [their] slot ticketing system in which [they] reverted to hand-paid jackpots,” adding that “the issue has been resolved” and all winners are getting paid.

Video from a woman at the casino shows some of the affected machines displaying an error message, while some players are still able to play at other slots.

According to the woman, at one point, all slot machines began flashing and were not working.
