Sudbury boy dies nearly one month after crash on Vermont highway

A 4-year-old boy from Sudbury who was critically injured in a late-December car crash in Vermont has died from his injuries, according to a release from Vermont State Police.

The child, identified as Max McCormick of Sudbury, was one of five people inside a 2010 Toyota Tacoma that crashed on Highway 30 in Vermont.

The truck crossed over the double-yellow line after losing control on the ice and slush-covered roadway, according to the State Police’s summary of the crash. Upon veering into the oncoming traffic lane, the Tacoma collided with a 1998 International Truck.

McCormick was then transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire with a head injury classified as critical but stable. On January 20 – 23 days after the crash – police announced that McCormick passed away.

The crash, which happened just after 10 a.m., occurred at the onset of Green Mountain National Forest in Jamaica, Vt. The four other people traveling in the car with McCormick – all Massachusetts residents – were not injured in the crash. The driver of the second vehicle, Caleb Simpson, 25, of Brattleboro, VT also was uninjured in the event.

Vermont State Police will continue to investigate the crash.
