Storms rip siding off Andover High building during performance

ANDOVER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Students were back in school Monday morning after weekend storms ripped the roof off the auditorium at Andover High School during a performance there Sunday.

A structural engineer was set to check out the building on Monday to assess the extent of the damage.

Sunday's rain and wind ripped a 10-by-40 patch of siding off the Andover High School auditorium.

"The wind came in and the rain came in and it looks like something you'd see on the news," said Jane O'Donnell, director of North Andover's Center for the Performing Arts.

Dancers and performers participating in the the Center for Performing Arts' recital at 3 p.m. Sunday got evacuated to the cafeteria just moments before taking the stage.

"They told us there was this big hole in the building," said one performer. "And we were like, 'Oh my God,' and we all got wicked nervous."

A building inspector checked it out for safety and after a two-hour delay filled with mounting nerves, the show went on.
