Stonehill College cancels class after threat

EASTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - Stonehill College canceled classes Friday as State, Easton and Stonehill Police searched the campus in response to a threat.

Students and staff were asked to leave campus if they were able to.

Student Dimitri Vlassov said, "They told us to leave campus as soon as possible."

Our Sharman Sacchetti was there as cars exited.

For students remaining on school grounds, the college asked in a text alert that they report to the Sports Complex so police could search residence halls. As a precaution, a nearby elementary school, Moreau Hall, evacuated the students and took them to the Oliver Ames school.

Stonehill College released a statement Friday afternoon saying that an extensive search was complete and they found nothing suspicious.

"Responding to an anonymous threat, State, Easton and Stonehill police have completed an exhaustive search of all buildings on campus and have found nothing suspicious," the statement read. "All buildings have been searched and the majority of buildings are reopened to students and staff, and a normal schedule has resumed. Police are continuing to investigate the source of the threat and extra officers and patrols will be in place through the weekend."

Stonehill police are not going into much detail about this, but FOX25 has learned that someone found a note in a box Thursday night and called State Police who responded within minutes. The bomb squad reportedly checked the box, which was empty.
