Statues at Dorchester church vandalized

BOSTON — A Dorchester church was vandalized on Sunday morning as two statues on the property were victimized, according to a priest at the local diocese.

A statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was broken into three pieces at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, confirmed Father Anthony of the Dorchester church. The incident was discovered around 8 a.m. on Sunday.

The body of the statue was broken into two pieces while the head also came off.

A statue of the Virgin Mary was taken from the church property and later found in the trash can of a nearby resident.

Police noted that security cameras are in the area. There have been no updates on potential suspects.
