Statewide sweep results in 32 arrests on child pornography charges

Massachusetts law enforcement officials announced the results of a week-long, statewide sweep of suspects on child pornography charges.

The sweep, known as "Operation Corral," resulted in the arrests of 32 men on charges of possession or dissemination of child pornography.

Investigative leads were generated by the Massachusetts Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and executed by local and state police departments.

In total, police officials across the state executed 56 search warrants. The operation included 41 different agencies on both the local and national level.

One of the arrested suspects, 49-year-old Jose Salgado, of Chelsea, is an employee of the Transportation Security Administration at Logan Airport. State Police notified the TSA of the charges, and the TSA is believed to have suspended him immediately.

Attorney General Martha Coakley commented on the sweep, saying: "Child pornography is the exploitation of children, and that exploitation has been made even more prevalent by the growth of the Internet and technology. It is why it is so important that all of us in law enforcement continue to improve the ways we use technology to investigate, prosecute, and prevent these crimes. The collaboration during this Operation shows the joint commitment all of these agencies have to protecting children from exploitation, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to aggressively enforce our child pornography laws."
