NATICK, Mass. — The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad responded to an I-90 service plaza in Natick for reports of a possible hand grenade near a gas pump, according to State Police.
Mass. State Police received a call for the reported grenade at 3:46 on Saturday afternoon. Officials described the object as a blue grenade with an apparent hole in the bottom. The device is on top of a gas pump at the eastbound Natick rest stop.

After investigation by State Police, it was determined that the object was an inert military training hand grenade, meaning that the device was not active.

Emergency personnel responded to the situation, while the Mass. State Police Fire and Explosive Investigation Unit investigated.
The rest area was completely shut down during the investigation, but has since been reopened.
