CONTOOCOOK, New Hampshire. — A 2.9 magnitude earthquake hit near Contoocook, New Hampshire Monday morning.
The earthquake hit about 9:18 and was likely felt in nearby towns of East Concord, Concord, Laconia and Manchester.
Earthquakes on the east coast are generally felt over a much broader region than the west coast. The largest known New England earthquake was in 1628 at a magnitude of 6.5.
