Search continues for Worcester shooting suspect as neighbor remembers victim

The search continues as Worcester Police look for the suspect in a double shooting that left one dead.

The investigation comes after 23-year-old Jampy Rivera was shot on Sturgis Street in Worcester around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Rivera died shortly after the incident, and a 28-year-old was rushed to the hospital after being found on the sidewalk after the shooting.

In the end, Rivera left behind a 2-year-old daughter after the fatal incident.

"He seemed like a good man, good family man, friendly," Acacia Thomas, a neighbor, said. "No one deserved to die like that. It's sad."

Now, the incident has residents in the area on edge.

"It's just crazy," Thomas said. "They're my neighbors. I see them everyday on motorcycles, four-wheelers. It's just sad."

According to witnesses, a man walked up from the side of a house and began to open fire.

"They've been blown out," Thomas said. "The straight bullet shot their windows out."

Three cars were also hit by the gunfire in the incident.

Rivera's friends said he would often visit his friend and work on cars together, working on a passion of his.

"He's always outside," Thomas said. "Loved being outside."

Now, a memorial with balloons and candles marks the spot where Rivera was killed.

"I hope he pays, and knows that he took a father away," Thomas said of the suspect. "He ruined a family. I hope he pays."

The second man shot remains at a local hospital, where he is said to be in serious condition.

Police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect, and are asking for anyone to call police with any information about the incident.
