SCITUATE, Mass. — Three schools in Scituate were put under a 'shelter in place' warning Tuesday morning after a report of a man in the area with a gun.
Police said the man might have a handgun and was reported in the Ellis Estates area.
Mass. State Police said they were assisting in a police action and announced just before 1 p.m. the suspect had been taken into custody.
Police say Douglas Simonovitch, a 46-year-old veteran, was not armed. However, police say when they spoke to him on the phone, he warned them he was armed with two guns and would shoot anyone who came close.
Despite the threat, police say he was arrested on a warrant for domestic violence and likely won't be charged in relation to Tuesday's incident.
The lockdown was lifted at the schools upon his arrest.
