Scituate Harbor Master thankful for quick rescue after being knocked into water

SCITUATE, Mass. – Scituate’s harbor master is still thanking two men whose quick actions helped save him after a dangerous fall during Thursday’s nor’easter.

Stephen Mone said he was called during the height of the storm because the patrol boat was loose.

As he made his way down the dock, his boots filled with ice-cold water and a wave knocked him into the frigid water.

Thankfully, Mone said, Stephen Hill saw what happened and jumped into action.

“The dock turned, the boat took a turn a wave came in and he just went over the edge," Stephen Hill said.

As Hill, the manager of the Mill Wharf Restaurant, pulled Mone up by the belt a second man arrived to help.

“I said ‘I don’t have much time I can’t hold on much longer.’ He got to me and was pulling up on me. I was able to kick my boots off,” Mone said.

Mone was brought inside the restaurant and wrapped in table clothes to stay warm until an ambulance arrived.

Mone says if he had been in the water just a minute longer there could have been a much different outcome.
