VOTING FOR THIS MATCHUP HAS CLOSED
Good Will Hunting against The Departed. This clash of two titans might be the best matchup of the entire tournament. Good Will Hunting nabbed two Oscars and was nominated for seven more. The Departed picked up four of the five it was nominated for in 2006. On paper The Departed walks away with his one, but the Fox 25 newsroom says Good Will Hunting takes it. This is why we vote, kids.
2. Good Will Hunting - I'm secretly hoping Good Will Hunting takes the Top of the Hub award in this contest simply so we can say "How do you like them apples?" on air. The screenplay for the 1997 iconic Boston film earned Matt Damon and Ben Affleck their first Academy Awards and nabbed a Best Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar for Robin Williams. The film stars Damon as an MIT Janitor/Math Prodigy with a world of emotional problems and Williams as his psychologist. Affleck gets props for his role as Damon's blue collar buddy from Southie and Minnie Driver rounds out the perfect cast as Damon's love interest and Harvard student, Skylar. Even if it doesn't win this contest, we're still giving Good Will Hunting the "Best Movie About An MIT Janitor/Math Prodigy Ever" award.
3. The Departed – With a list of big names attached to this film long enough to make J.R.R. Tolkien cry (Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin -- are you kidding me?), The Departed is an epic American crime drama. The Southie-based thriller took home the Best Picture Oscar, among others, in 2007, and has made the top 10 lists of more movie critics than we can name. That puts it as our number three seed – and makes us want to run home and watch it right now.
