Revere man charged with stealing pit bull puppy

EVERETT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police arrested a man they say stole a family's pit bull puppy.

The family called police on Wednesday after they say a strange man walked onto their front porch of their Union Street home and stole the eight-month-old dog.

The situation was caught on the family's home surveillance camera. A white man with a shaved head can be seen walking onto the porch, playing with the puppy for a few minutes, and then taking the puppy and its leash and walking towards Chelsea.

The homeowner said his wife and three children were heartbroken. Police released the photo of the suspect to officers and sent units on patrol.

Just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, an officer saw a man matching the suspect's description walking a pit bull puppy on Elm Street. When the officer approached him, police say the suspect admitted he had taken the puppy. The pit bull was successfully returned to its family.

Nathan Deters, 44, of Revere was charged with larceny of property over $250. He was arraigned on Thursday.
