Revamping Blue Hill Ave: Boston wants to hear what you have to say

BOSTON — One of the busiest stretches of road in the City of Boston is getting a makeover!

Blue Hill Avenue, located in the city's Dorchester neighborhood, is not only a commercial corridor for many local businesses but also provides access to and from the city's major employment centers for communities in Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan.

The highest bus ridership in the city is also supported by Blue Hill Avenue as it provides people easy access to the multitude of businesses in the area and connections to other parts of the city.

Churches, local grocery stores and even the Franklin Park Zoo are within reach along the road.

However, citing safety concerns, residents pushed for a change on one of the city's busiest main arteries.

Riddled with potholes, residents say it's tough driving down Blue Hill Ave as you're trying to evade cyclists because the spacing between car and bike lanes is not enough and poses a serious risk.

The city is also keeping in mind safety concerns for pedestrians — as well as drivers and bicyclists — and taking suggestions on how they should approach the issue.

The project includes the 3-mile stretch of Blue Hill Avenue between Grove Hall and Mattapan Square.

Residents have also expressed interest in adding public parks and a wider variety of stores to the area.

If you'd like to submit your input to the city, here's where you can take the survey. You can also sign up to be a part of the city's email list, where you can receive the latest updates on the work being done on Blue Hill Avenue.

The city is also looking to hire people to be a part of the project, and you can find more information on these opportunities on the city's website. Currently, they are looking to hire professionals with experience in the planning, mobility and communication areas.
