Reading police searching for cross dressing armed robbery suspect

READING, Mass. – Police in Reading are searching for an armed robbery and home invasion suspect who was described as a man wearing woman’s clothes.

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. at an apartment on Lakeview Avenue, police said. When officers arrived they learned the victim and the suspect had arranged to meet on line.

The suspect, who had described himself as a woman and arrived at the victim’s home wearing women’s clothing, allegedly threatened the victim with a knife.

After forcing his way into the home, the suspect got an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area in a red Kia sedan.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.

“This was not a random act, and I want to reassure residents that we do not believe this individual poses a threat to the community,” Deputy Police David Chief Clark said. “We are aggressively investigating this incident and are doing everything we can to bring this suspect into custody as quickly as possible.”

The suspect is described as a black man around 6 feet tall weighing 200 pounds.  Police say he was wearing black yoga pants and a black blouse and had long black hair that could be a wig.
