Reading Police investigating after girl says she was followed home from school

READING, Mass. — Reading Police are investigating after a young girl said she was being followed home from school.

At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a home on Main Street where an 11-year-old girl told them she was followed home after leaving the Joshua Eaton Elementary School.

The girl said she noticed a man about 15-feet behind her as she was walking down Melbourne Avenue. She says that man followed her for about five to ten minutes.

The man was described as a white male, approximately 40 years old, 5'8" tall. He was wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans. The man did not make contact with the girl.

"This student did exactly the right thing by immediately informing a trusted adult after she noticed something out of the ordinary while on her walk home," Deputy Chief Clark said. "We are investigating this matter, but at this time we do not believe there is a danger to the community."
