DUXBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) – Well-known rapper Benzino, who was shot on Saturday, was recovering Sunday at South Shore Hospital.
At about 12 p.m. Saturday, police and firefighters responded to Route 3 for the report of a shooting, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.
Gai Scott, who was driving one car, is the nephew of Raymond "Benzino" Scott, and was driving the other car. They were in a funeral procession on the way to a church in Plymouth when the shooting reportedly took place. Gai Scott was arrested after allegedly shooting Benzino.
Benzino, 48, is a cast member of the VH1 reality show "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta," which is known for its over-the-top drama and fights, and CEO of Hip-Hop Weekly.
Gai, 37, was driving a Bentley when he allegedly shot at Raymond. Raymond Scott was hit and got out of his car. He was taken to the Duxbury Police Department and then transported to a hospital.
He was listed in good condition, a spokeswoman for South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth said Sunday morning.
A press release sites "growing family tension" as a possible motive.
Gai, of Randolph, was arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to murder. He will be arraigned Monday.
Benzino is a former co-owner of The Source magazine. At its prime, The Source was the pre-eminent magazine for rap, and it helped fuel the rise of urban magazines such as XXL and Vibe.
