RUTLAND, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A woman who was found dead following a fire at her home in Rutland was helping the homeless man accused of stealing her car, prosecutors say.
Amador Roman, 35, was arraigned on charges of larceny over $250, receiving stolen property and witness intimidation Monday morning in East Brookfield District Court.
Firefighters found the body of 53-year-old Diane Lamarche-Leader following a fire at 2 Joanna Drive Friday. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Officials said Roman had stolen Lamarche-Leader's 2004 Toyota Highlander.
Prosecutors said Lamarche-Leader was a nurse who helped patients with substance abuse. They said she felt bad for Roman and had taken him into her home.
Roman has not been charged in Lamarche-Leader's death. Prosecutors said he has a long criminal record and was held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
Lamarche-Leader's best friend told FOX 25 that the murdered woman was in the middle of a bitter divorce and her children lived with her estranged husband. She was supposed to move out of her home the day her body was found.
