Police: Woman, 42, drowns at Sandy Pond Beach

AYER, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a 42-year-old woman has drowned at a town beach in Massachusetts.

Officials say they received a call that an unresponsive woman was pulled from the water at Sandy Pond Beach in Ayer at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and CPR was being performed.

Crews arrived and took her to Nashoba Valley Medical Center, and later transferred her to UMass Memorial Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The Middlesex district attorney's office identified the victim Wednesday at Irene Adonon of Ayer.

Officials say the beach will remain closed on Wednesday and might reopen Thursday.

Authorities are investigating.
