EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — East Bridgewater Police are seeking to identify a man they say approached a young girl on Wednesday afternoon.
According to authorities, the man reportedly drove up to an 11-year-old girl as she was walking home from her bus stop and asked her if she needed a ride.
"He comes up and asks at least 5 times if i need a ride," said the girl, who is only being identified as Sam. "I said, 'No, no.'"
At around 3:20 p.m., police received a call from the girl's mother on Thayer Avenue, claiming she was watching her daughter walk from the bus stop when a man in a silver sedan approached her and asked her twice if she wanted a ride.
Neither the mother nor the daughter know who the man is.
Sam's family believes the man was following the school bus.
"He was following the bus, and I didn’t think anything of it, it was a regular car," said Shayne, the victim's mother. "I was sitting there, waiting for her to get off the bus and when it happened. I ran here, I had smaller children inside."
The incident occurred on Thayer Avenue between West Union Street and Patriot Circle.
The girl's mother was able to take photos of the man's car before he turned into a nearby driveway. He then turned around and fled towards Matfield Street.
The man is described as a black man in his 20's or 30's with a beard and medium build and was seen wearing a red hat. He was driving what police believed to be a silver 2016-2018 Honda Civic four-door sedan.
Authorities are actively seeking to identify this man and bring him in for questioning.
Any information on this incident is asked to contact East Bridgewater Police.
