Police: NH man charged after trying to buy gun, lying on federal application

MERRIMACK, NH — A man who tried to purchase a semi-automatic pistol at a Merrimack, New Hampshire, gun shop was arrested after police said he lied on the federal application required to purchase a firearm.

Merrimack Police said 24-year-old Nicholas McDowell-Monte, of Milford, tried to purchase the gun at a local shop on May 11.

All firearms purchasers in New Hampshire must fill out a federal Firearm Transactions Record. Police said McDowell-Monte provided "untruthful statements" on the form.

McDowell-Monte was charged with unsworn falsification, a misdemeanor and released on personal recognizance, according to a news release. He is due back in court on Sept. 10.
