LAWRENCE, Mass. — Police have cleared the scene near the Lawrence Commuter Rail stop following an investigation into a suspicious package which was left near the tracks.

Officials announced not even 10 minutes after the initial tweet about the investigation that the device had been deemed a hoax.
There is currently no threat to the public, but transit police will continue to investigate the incident.
LPD along with the MBTA Transit Police and MA State Police are investigating a suspicious package in the rear of 65 Merrimack St. As a precautionary measure train service has been temporarily suspended at this time. There is no further information available at this time pic.twitter.com/8Y35vnx3e1

As a precautionary measure, Commuter Rail service on the Haverhill line was temporarily suspended, but has since been restored back to normal with a few residual delays.
Update: The police activity in Lawrence has been cleared. Normal service is resuming on the Haverhill Line with residual delays.
