Suspect killed after being shot by officers at N.H. liquor store

HAMPTON, N.H. — A New Hampshire man was killed Tuesday afternoon after being shot by police outside the state liquor store in Hampton around 12: 30 p.m.

According to police, Barry Jones from Portsmouth was intoxicated when he took his neighbor's pickup truck while armed around noon. Jones apparently said he was taking the truck to Lawrence so he could go get drugs.

Jones apparently crashed the truck, causing damage to the front driver's-side tire, but continued driving onto the highway southbound,

The truck was then spotted at the highway liquor store in Hampton where officers approached Jones. One or two troopers reportedly discharged their weapons, and Jones was hit at least once.

There were about 25 people inside the store when Jones was shot in the parking lot, none of them were injured.

After being shot, medical attention was given to Jones at the scene, and was brought to Portsmouth Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

None of the officers involved were injured, but the troopers who fired their weapons have been put on paid leave until the investigation is over.
