Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting in Lynn

LYNN, Mass. — An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Lynn.

The shooting happened around 8:45 a.m. on Western Avenue and Nichols Avenue. A neighbor tells FOX25 he heard about nine or 10 shots fired.

"It sounded almost like firecrackers, went pop, pop and then went pop, pop, pop, pop,” Roberto Negron said.

Police said they were trying to arrest 33-year-old Randolph McClain on five warrants involving ongoing threats they said he was making to his ex-girlfriend.

Police responded to a home where they encountered McClain.

"As the officers were checking the second floor they called to him. He answered saying he had a gun and he would kill them,” Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said.

McClain then jumped out a window and ran down the street where he allegedly pointed his gun in attempt to carjack a woman.

"As officers approached the vehicle he pointed a gun at them at which point the three officers fired at him,” Blodgett said.

One woman who heard the shots then saw the scene said she knew McClain.

“He was a very good guy, very caring father, he loved his kids. I would never expect something like this of him at all,” Audra Hescock said.

McClain died from the gunshot wounds. The woman in the car and the officers were uninjured.
