Police ID Norton man as pedestrian killed in Raynham crash

A Norton man was killed on Saturday night in Raynham after being hit by a car, according to Raynham Police.

Police say they received a call of a pedestrian struck on Route 44 around 10:41 p.m. Saturday night.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Norton native Luke Cosgrove, who was transported to a local hospital. There, the 24-year-old was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Cosgrove was on foot in the travel lane of Route 44 when a 60-year-old Taunton woman struck him in a 2012 Toyota Rav 4.

The woman was traveling eastbound at the time of the crash, and did stop and tried to help the victim.

Cosgrove's cousin told Boston 25 News that he was a man with a big heart who cared deeply about hs friends and family, and said the family is grateful the driver stayed with Cosgrove until help arrived.

Witnesses say others also stopped and began CPR.

“The car was right in the second lane traveling this way, and the car was there the whole night until like two in the morning," Elijah Whelan said.

Cosgrove's friends told Boston 25 News that he had gone to the Sprint store across the street earlier in the evening to get a new phone, and they remembered the victim as a funny kid who was always laughing.

The 24-year-old's family has set up a GoFundMe page for his funeral, which can be found by clicking here.

Both Raynham PD and Mass State Police are investigating the incident.
