Police: 1 dead after double shooting in Dorchester

BOSTON — Two people were shot in Dorchester Saturday evening and one person later died, according to Boston Police.

Police found two men in their late 20s had been shot on Ames Street.

One of them was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead, while the other was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be okay.

Family members have identified the man who was killed as 28-year-old Dantley Leonard. He’s a father and just got a union job and police are still looking for whoever shot him.

Family members spent hours trying to view Leonard’s body Saturday night, but they say they were told by the hospital and medical examiner that because he is an organ donor, they won’t be able to see him until their offices reopen.

It’s an added layer of grief for the more than 15 relatives who showed up to bid their goodbyes after hearing the news.

Danley Leonard, Dantley’s twin brother -- born just eight minutes apart on Valentine’s Day said his twin is his best friend.

“They gave us a number to call and now they’re saying we can’t even really see, identify my brother,” Leonard said.%

The New England Organ Bank sent FOX25 a statement Sunday morning regarding the family's concerns:

"Organ and tissue donation should never prevent a family from viewing their deceased loved one. In fact, the family is an important and necessary part of every donation. If the family was told by anyone other than New England Organ Bank that donation prevented them from seeing their loved one, that information was incorrect."

A second person was injured in the shooting, but suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating.
