Easton Police: Speeding driver runs away from double fatal crash scene

EASTON, Mass. — Two people have died after two vehicles collided in Easton, officials said.

Easton firefighters were called to the intersection Route 138 and Purchase Street around 6:30 p.m. Thursday for a serious crash.

First responders say a Dodge Journey being driven by 33-year-old Sheri Vazquez of Easton was speeding down Route 138 when she collided with another car trying to turn onto Purchase Street.

Both people in that car, a 79-year-old man and 77-year-old woman, died as a result of the crash. Their names have not yet been released.

Police say after the crash, Vazquez got out of her car and ran away. She was arrested soon after in West Bridgewater.

She is being charged with leaving the scene of personal injury and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, but additional charges could come.

She has been taken to an area hospital for a well-being check and is expected to be arraigned Friday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.

No additional information was released.
