An elderly brother and sister who live in the home told police they were both awoken by two men demanding money.
"“The woman was yelling and I think that might have scared them and got them to go faster than they wanted to," Lowell Police Captain Paul Laferriere said.
The victims said they were both assaulted by the suspects and sustained minor visible injuries. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Both are expected to recover, but stayed overnight on Friday for obserervation.
"They were roughed up from what we gather," Laferriere said.

The suspects, who were both dressed in black and wore face masks, fled out the front door without taking any money. The victim's car was stolen but has since been recovered.
Police say it appears the suspects got into the house by breaking a front porch screen window, which the victims told police was left open for fresh air.
“It’s scary, it’s disturbing," Diane Seindells, a neighbor, said. "It’s normally a quiet neighborhood, usually we’ll have teens go through and vandalize or something but nothing serious.”
"“We are looking at a couple of individuals, and we do have some credible evidence physical evidence from the location," Laferriere said. "We think hopefully we are going to have some answers as to who may have done this in the very near future."
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call police at (978)937-3200.
