Plymouth county prosecutor resigns after release of emails

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Plymouth County prosecutor resigned from his position this past week after 23 years on the job.

Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Frank Middleton gave his notice Thursday. Both Middleton and District Attorney Timothy Cruz have come under fire recently in connection with the release of emails that describe former Plymouth County prosecutor Karen O'Sullivan as being racist and dishonest, according to the Patiot Ledger.

The Ledger reported that the e-mails prompted an investigation by Cruz.

Middleton says he's leaving the office for private practice and that it was a “tough decision, but the right one for me and my family.”

His statement does not reference any of the emails.
